OFFICE INAINN transformed Hotel Tkalnia in Łódź, preserving the city’s industrial history while creating a modern mixed-use space. The project revitalized a former textile factory, once the largest in Central Europe, founded by industrialist Juliusz Heinzl. By restoring the building’s authentic character and adapting it for contemporary use, the design contributes to the urban renewal of Łódź.
The restoration focused on uncovering the building’s original brick facade and intricate details, concealed by layers of plaster. Cast iron structures were sandblasted and exposed, enhancing the industrial aesthetic. The single-layer brick walls were left visible, emphasizing sustainable design without the need for additional insulation.
The project prioritized reuse, minimizing new materials and utilizing reclaimed demolition bricks to maintain visual consistency.
Hotel Tkalnia now serves as a vibrant mixed-use space, combining hotel, retail, and recreational functions while preserving its industrial heritage. The project is a key part of OFFICE INAINN’s commitment to blending modern design with respect for history, contributing to the regeneration of central Łódź.
