Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Costs
What are the costs of your services?
The cost of our architectural services depends on the scope and complexity of your project. We don’t have a one-size-fits-all price list – each project is **quoted individually** after we understand your needs and the specifics of the design task. This way, you receive a price tailored to exactly what you require, whether it’s a custom home design, an interior redesign, or a commercial building project.
Are there any additional fees?
No, we maintain a transparent pricing policy with no hidden fees. The quote we provide covers everything we have agreed to include in the project. If, during the process, it turns out that additional services or changes are needed, we will always discuss these with you in advance and agree on any associated costs. Our goal is that you always know exactly what you’re paying for at each stage – from initial sketches to final drawings.
Can I get an estimate before we start?
Absolutely. We always prepare a detailed cost estimate **before** beginning any project. After an initial consultation and once we have a clear understanding of your requirements, we’ll provide you with a written proposal outlining the scope of work and its costs. This quote is free of charge and comes with no obligation, so you can make an informed decision. We want you to have a full picture of the expected investment upfront, ensuring you feel confident before moving forward.
Timelines
How long does the design process take?
The duration of an architectural project depends on its type and complexity. For example, the concept phase for a smaller house project (such as a single-family home) might take a few weeks, whereas a comprehensive design for a larger commercial building could take several months from start to finish. We usually break the work into phases – concept design, design development, construction drawings, etc. – to ensure steady progress and clarity. We will agree on an approximate timeline with you at the start and keep you updated along the way, so you know what to expect during each stage.
Are accelerated deadlines or “rush” projects possible?
We understand that some projects come with tight deadlines. If you need a faster turnaround, we will do our best to accommodate your schedule. Where possible, we can reprioritize tasks and allocate extra resources to meet an expedited deadline. At the same time, we are very quality-conscious – even if we work faster, we won’t compromise on thoroughness or the architectural quality of the design. It’s best to let us know about any critical time requirements during the initial consultation, so we can plan realistically and determine how to meet those deadlines.
What does the project schedule look like?
At the outset, we create a clear project schedule for our collaboration. This plan breaks the process down into key phases and milestones – from the initial concept presentation and subsequent design revisions, to the preparation of technical documentation and final approvals. We estimate the duration of each phase and set target dates for milestones, so you have an overview of when each part of the project will be completed and when we’ll need your feedback or approval. Having this timeline laid out ensures that everyone involved has aligned expectations regarding progress and deadlines throughout the project.
Location and Service Areas
Where is your office located?
Office INAINN is an architectural office based in Ålesund, Norway, and we also have an office in Poznań, Poland. Having a presence in both Scandinavia and Poland allows us to blend a Scandinavian architecture perspective with local insights from each region. If you’d like to visit us in person, you’re very welcome – just let us know in advance, and we’ll arrange to meet you at the office location most convenient for you.
Do you work with clients outside your local region?
Yes, we do. We serve clients not only in our immediate area but across all of Norway and Poland, as well as in other countries. Our experience includes projects in a variety of locations – from major cities to rural settings – so we know how to adapt our designs to different environments and local contexts. We are not limited by geography: even if your project is in another part of the country or in a different country altogether, we can collaborate effectively through travel as needed and efficient online communication.
Are online consultations possible?
Absolutely. We gladly offer **online architectural consultations** so that we can work together no matter where you are. We frequently meet with clients via video conferencing to discuss ideas, review design proposals, and look over plans together in real time. We use modern tools (for example, screen-sharing for drawings and 3D models) to make remote collaboration just as effective as an in-person meeting. This flexible way of working is very convenient and time-saving, especially for clients who are far away or have busy schedules.
Collaboration Process
How does collaboration with your office work, step by step?
We follow a clear, step-by-step process to ensure smooth execution and full transparency throughout the project:
1. Initial Consultation – We begin with a free, no-obligation introductory meeting (either in person or online) to talk about your ideas, needs, budget, and any initial expectations. At this stage, we also gather information and any documents you might already have (such as a site map, zoning guidelines, or inspiration images) to better understand the project’s context.
2. Analysis & Concept – We analyze the site and any regulatory conditions for the project. Then we develop initial concept proposals – sketches, layouts, or visualizations – that establish the direction for the design. We present these concept ideas to you and gather your feedback, refining the concepts based on your comments.
3. Design Development – Once a concept is approved, we proceed to detailed architectural design. We fine-tune the floor plans, select materials, and address technical requirements. During this phase, we produce comprehensive technical drawings and, if necessary, coordinate with consulting engineers (structural, HVAC, electrical, etc.) to ensure the design is fully resolved.
4. Documentation & Permitting – We prepare all the documentation needed for building permit applications and for the construction process. We make sure the project complies with all relevant building codes and regulations. If any official approvals or permits are required, we assist you with the application process, using our experience dealing with local authorities to help things go smoothly.
5. Construction & Supervision – During construction, we can provide architectural oversight upon request. This means we remain involved to advise contractors, clarify design details as needed, and ensure that what is being built aligns with our plans. We stay with the project through its completion and are available for final inspections or any adjustments, making sure the end result matches the design intent.
Are any documents or initial preparations required from me?
We don’t require you to have a lot of documentation ready before we start – the most important thing is sharing your ideas and vision for the project. In the initial consultation (which, as mentioned, is free and no-obligation), we’ll ask you a few basic questions about the project: the location/site, the approximate size and type of building you have in mind, as well as any style preferences (for example, whether you like **minimalism in architecture** or a **Scandinavian design** aesthetic). If you already have some materials – like a site survey, local development guidelines, or inspiration photos – it’s great to have them on hand, but they’re not required for the first meeting. The key in the beginning is an open conversation that allows us to understand your needs, and gives you a chance to learn about how we work.
Do you offer any guarantee on your projects?
Our priority is to deliver a design of the highest quality, and we stand by our work at every step of the process. If it turns out during the project or implementation that minor adjustments or adaptations are needed, we will handle those as part of our service – we want you to be completely satisfied with the final outcome. Additionally, we ensure all our plans and documentation meet current building codes and standards, which is a guarantee of safety and correctness in itself. While architectural services don’t come with a formal “warranty” in the way a product might, we do provide support up until the project is finished, to make sure the end result lives up to your expectations.
What experience and certifications do you have?
We have many years of experience in the field of architecture, with projects completed in Norway, Poland, and other European countries. Our architects hold master’s degrees in architecture and the necessary professional licenses to practice. The Office INAINN team has had work published in architecture journals and has received awards/nominations – for example, our founder was nominated for the international Archiprix award for his graduate project. We are also members of professional architectural associations and keep our skills up to date through courses and conferences. Being established in two countries (Poland and Norway) means we draw on a broad range of experience and best practices from both markets, which we bring to each project.
Payment and Financing
Do you offer flexible payment options?
Yes, we are flexible when it comes to payment. We typically break the project fee into stages tied to the project’s progress – for instance, a portion upon presentation of the concept design, the next portion upon delivery of the detailed design, and a final payment upon handover of all final documentation. We will work with you to set up a payment schedule that fits your needs. Payment is usually made via bank transfer against invoices, and for larger projects we’re open to discussing a customized payment plan to accommodate your budget.
Do you offer a free initial consultation?
Yes, we offer a free, no-obligation initial consultation for new clients. We understand that you’d like to get to know us and our working style before committing – that’s why we don’t charge for the first meeting or call (whether it’s at our office or via video chat). During this consultation, we discuss your ideas, needs, and how we can assist with your project. After the conversation, we’ll prepare a rough proposal for next steps and provide an initial cost estimate. This first discussion is a great opportunity to ask questions, clarify any uncertainties, and see if our philosophy and style align with your vision, before you decide on a full collaboration.
